Retired Col. Richard A. and Barbara Burke of Killeen recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Richard Burke and Barbara Hunt were united in marriage on June 8, 1963, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Chicago, Ill.

They’ve lived in the area for 29 years.

A Mass and Hawaiian-themed reception catered by Arboniches Fine Catering were held June 8 at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church and Parish Center in Harker Heights.

The Burkes have seven children: James and Gloria Burke of Lima, Peru, Daniel Burke of Killeen, Kevin and Dora Burke of Atlanta, Kathleen Burke and Barry Gormley of Killeen and Belfast, Ireland, Patrick Burke of Grapevine, Maureen and Felix Montez of Killeen, Erin Burke and Mark Kretzmeier of Portland Oregan. They have 17 grandchildren.

In lieu of gifts, more than $3,800 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The family appreciates the contributions.

Unaccompanied World War II-era vet to be buried Monday

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an unaccompanied veteran burial at 2 p.m. Monday for Sgt. Ellis Ratliff, 89, a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran. The Central Texas community is invited to the ceremony.

Volunteer Killeen to host orientation Feb. 4

Volunteer Killeen will host a volunteer orientation Feb. 4. The training is free and will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Killeen Community Center, 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd.
