Velta and Linda Howe of Copperas Cove celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a family barbecue at their son’s house.

Linda Allen and Velta Howe were united in marriage on March 30, 1973, at the Eastside Baptist Church in Cleburne.

The couple met when she was 6 years old. They started dating while she was in high school and he was in the Army. They went their separate ways and got back together seven years later and married.

They lived in Oklahoma, Germany and Indiana prior to Mr. Howe’s retirement in 1984, with 24 years of service. Mrs. Howe retired from the government in 2010, after 28 years of service. She is the secretary at Robertson Avenue Baptist Church.

Their children are Tony Howe and his wife, Peggy, and Danna Armstrong, all of Copperas Cove. They have five grandchildren.

Unaccompanied World War II-era vet to be buried Monday

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an unaccompanied veteran burial at 2 p.m. Monday for Sgt. Ellis Ratliff, 89, a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran. The Central Texas community is invited to the ceremony.

Volunteer Killeen to host orientation Feb. 4

Volunteer Killeen will host a volunteer orientation Feb. 4. The training is free and will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Killeen Community Center, 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd.
