Joe and Mert Lutz celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Tuesday.

The couple met while Joe was serving in the military at Fort Hood through mutual friends.

They were united in marriage on Dec. 24, 1958, at Memorial Baptist Church in Pasadena.

Mrs. Lutz is retired from Killeen Independent School District. Mr. Lutz retired from the U.S. Army and Central Freight Lines.

They are longtime residents of Killeen and have many friends in Central Texas.

Their daughters, Donna Long of Glen Rose, Karen Sears of Killeen, Joni DeLosSantos of Seabrook and Bobi Baker of Jarrell, all grew up and went to school in Killeen.

They have four grandchildren.

Unaccompanied World War II-era vet to be buried Monday

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an unaccompanied veteran burial at 2 p.m. Monday for Sgt. Ellis Ratliff, 89, a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran. The Central Texas community is invited to the ceremony.

Volunteer Killeen to host orientation Feb. 4

Volunteer Killeen will host a volunteer orientation Feb. 4. The training is free and will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Killeen Community Center, 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd.
