Army Staff Sgt. Giunta Awarded Medal of Honor by President Obama

Army Staff Sgt. Sal Giunta is awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama for conspicuous gallantry during a ceremony Nov. 16, 2010, at the White House in Washington. Giunta received the medal for his courageous actions during combat operations against an armed enemy in October 2007 in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. He is the first living veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to receive the medal.

Belton Fire Department to distribute fans

BELTON — The fire department is partnering with Wal-Mart, H-E-B, TruMH, the Rotary Club and Belton Professional Firefighters Association to distribute fans to those in need during extreme heat conditions, according to a news release from the city.
