Jury selection should have started today. We will find out in a few hours if it will begin next week or in months. The hearing starts at noon.

The media presence is greater today than yesterday. Reuters, the New York Times, the Associated Press, San Antonio Express-News are here along with several regional television stations. That is to be expected after the accused shooter, Maj. Nidal Hasan, told the military judge he was defending the leaders of the Taliban when allegedly killed 13 and wounded dozens on Nov. 5, 2009.

Hasan will elaborate on that today after the judge granted him 24 hours to put his "defense of others" in writing. Judge Col. Tara Osborn will way whether enough evidence exists in his strategy to justify a continuance.

The article that published in today's Killeen Daily Herald is here.

Media round-up:

The New York Times has a good account of the dialogue between Hasan and Osborn here.

The Los Angeles Times article mentions that Hasan demurred on providing details of his defense because he did not want to "brainstorm" in front of the judge.

ABC News post this article just a few hours ago about the reaction from attorneys representing victims in a lawsuit against the Department of Defense and Army.

Leslie Marshall with the U.S. News & World Report has this opinion piece stating Hasan is making a bad decision by representing himself. Way to go out on a limb there! I kid, I kid.

There are many more of course, but we are about to head in. Check @KDHcrime on Twitter for up to the minute updates.
