The Walking Dead has become a hit television show that focuses on a small group of people doing their best to survive long-term in the middle of a zombie, or “Walker” apocalypse. Most of you know that. Some of you may also know that it is based on a series of comic books of the same name. But a lot of you may not be aware that there is now a game series based on the comics too.
The Walking Dead: Season 1 was a series of episodic, adventure-horror games. Just like the comics and the television show, it stars a group of survivors doing their best to live in a world utterly ruined by something they neither understand nor have any way of combatting.
Any and all info about Season 2 has to come with this warning: ***SPOILERS***
In Season 2, the star is Clementine, an orphan girl taken in by former protagonist Lee. After Lee’s death or zombification (it’s up to you) at the end of Episode 5, Clementine is now on her own in the middle of the apocalypse. The player will be able to determine whether or not she survives.
The Walking Dead games are not really heavy on player freedom, per se. Don’t expect Left 4 Dead style waves of shooter combat. However, the choices the player makes during the story will have a significant impact on how it progresses. The first season was especially effective with character interaction, making it very alarming when certain characters were killed.
If Season 2 is anything like Season 1, expect the game to have excellent voice work and character animation. I will miss Dave Fennoy’s voice as Lee, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Clementine carries the series.
The Walking Dead: Season 2 already promises to be just as good as its predecessor. It remains to be seen whether it can top it.
