Memorial Hospital receives award and honors for stroke care

TEMPLE — Scott & White Memorial Hospital received the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for patient treatment.

“As a certified stroke center in Central Texas, we are dedicated to improving the quality of stroke care...” said Dr. Jeffrey Clark, Scott & White Stroke Center medical director. “This award highlights the efforts of our physicians, nurses, and staff who demonstrate their commitment to ensure that our patients receive care based on internationally-respected clinical guidelines.”

The stroke-care program helps hospital teams provide up-to-date, research-based guidelines with the goals of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.

The hospital earned the award by meeting achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment at a set level for a designated period.

They include aggressive use of medications and risk-reduction therapies.

Scott & White Memorial Hospital also received the association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll for meeting stroke quality measures that reduce the time between hospital arrival and treatment with a blood clot-buster treatment.

The Get With The Guidelines–Stroke program helps hospital’s staff implement prevention measures to include educating stroke patients about risk factors and ensuring proper medications use.
