Better Business Bureau operations throughout Central Texas won’t be affected by the loss of the bureau’s regional director as Austin officials for the nonprofit seek a replacement.
“We really don’t consider this position to be vacant in the interim, because there will be no interruption of service to the community,” said Erin Dufner, senior vice president of communications for BBB’s Austin offices.
There will still be people available in the Waco office for those businesses seeking additional information from the bureau, needing member services or wanting a speaker to come to their operations, Dufner said.
Consumers and businesses also will continue to have access to the organization’s services through the Internet.
“What is important to understand is that 95 percent of everything that we do ... is all happening online,” Dufner said.
“We really have these specific branch offices to do outreach in all those communities around those offices.”
Waco serves as a centralized location for access to businesses, consumers and media outlets in a 13-county service area for the bureau.
The office’s service area roughly encompasses the area between Comanche, Bell, Navarro and Hill counties.
Helen Moore left the position of regional director earlier this month, after filling the position vacated by the retirement of Richard Kitterman, of Harker Heights. Kitterman served as the area’s regional director out of Bell County for 16 years until his retirement in late March. Dufner wouldn’t say why Moore left or when she would be replaced.
Regional directors provide outreach opportunities for the BBB through educational means, local media and by building relationships with people who use its products and services, Dufner said.
“Our regional directors are constantly on the go ... through those efforts our regional directors are touching thousands of business areas,” she said.
There are about 1,000 accredited businesses in the Killeen area.
