Killeen chamber plans ribbon-cutting

The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce plans one event this week:

  • A ribbon-cutting for the Fine Arts Academy at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Chantz Plaza at 3800 E. Stan Schlueter Loop, Suite 192 in Killeen.

Shred Day collects tons of documents

WACO — The Better Business Bureau fall Shred Day events helped local consumers and businesses shred and recycle more than 175,000 pounds of confidential documents, computer parts and cardboard.

More than 155,000 pounds of paper documents were safely disposed of by certified document destruction specialists.

Here is the breakdown from the following Shred Day locations:

  • Austin: 26,500 pounds of paper; 876 participants.
  • Corpus Christi: 35,500 pounds of paper; 611 participants.
  • Killeen: 14,000 pounds of paper; 409 participants
  • Permian Basin: 10,000 pounds of paper; 191 participants.
  • San Antonio: 70,000 pounds of paper; 1,143 participants.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year. The BBB uses Shred Day to help consumers protect themselves.

Heights chamber plans events

The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce plans a couple of events this week:

  • An ambassadors meeting at noon Wednesday at the chamber.
  • Business After Hours Mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at First National Bank in Market Heights.

Texell plans free credit seminars

Texell Credit Union will host a “CreditAbility: Building a Strong Credit History” seminar from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Texell’s downtown branch, 17 S. First St. in Temple and from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive in Killeen.

This seminar is free to attend and a light dinner will be provided. All attendees will receive a copy of Dave Ramsey’s Book, “The Total Money Makeover.”
