SAMS-E course offered in Temple this month
McLane Advanced Technologies is offering a Standard Army Maintenance System – Enhanced operator course at 4001 Central Pointe Parkway in Temple from April 14-18.
The program is a logistics information system that enables the U.S. Army to conduct maintenance management of vehicles and equipment. Anyone interested in career development for Standard Army Management Information Systems should attend.
The course covers system utilities and interfaces, along with processes for personnel, supply, equipment and maintenance. Participants also will learn how to create reports and go over the Army Materiel Status System.
Classes are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Business Resource Center to teach basics
The Central Texas Business Resource Center will teach a business plan basics workshop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 300 Cheyenne Drive, Killeen.
This workshop covers a thorough overview of business planning, with a question-and-answer session. A workbook for preparing a business plan is included.
Cost is $25 per person, and includes all materials.

The Small Business Development Center out of Waco will hold one-on-one counseling at the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation office, 210 S. First St., Copperas Cove, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

USAA surpasses 10 million members
USAA reached more than 10 million members, maintained high member satisfaction, and offered new products and services to meet the needs of the military community in 2013.
The institution returned a record $1.5 billion in dividends, distributions, and bank rebates and rewards to members and customers during the year.
The record returns from USAA amounted to an 18 percent increase more than 2012.
USAA assisted members in need with more than 5 million auto and property claims in 2013, including nearly 100,000 catastrophe claims. USAA closed 97 percent of catastrophe claims by year-end.

First State Bank State, Ted Smith Law Group and First Community Title are hosting a Harker Heights Chamber After Hours Mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce will host a builders academy at One Santa Fe Plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
Randy McCauley, director of Public Engagement and Brand Strategy at Texas A&M University-Central Texas, will teach the course on how to effectively create a consistent brand message across all platforms and media.

Killeen offers first-time homebuyers program
Killeen’s Community Development Division – HOME Program along with Ronald Cooks of Connect Realty and Belinda Manzella of Gold Financial Services will conduct a first-time homebuyer seminar from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Killeen Arts & Activities Center, 802 N. Second St., in the Community Development Training Room.
Attendees will learn the pros and cons of homeownership, budgeting, goal setting, credit ratings, pre-approval and how to choose a mortgage lender and Realtor, home inspections and warranties, making an offer on a home, the closing process and the responsibilities of home ownership.

Heights chamber to receive military affairs update
Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, III Corps and Fort Hood commander, will provide a military briefing at the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce’s military affairs committee luncheon.
The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 24 at St. Paul Chong Hasang’s Parish Hall, 1000 E. Farm-to-Market 2410, Harker Heights.
