Business resource center hosts workshop in Belton

The Central Texas Business Resource Center and the Belton Economic Development Corporation are teaming up to provide free small-business counseling and workshop sessions on avoiding legal pitfalls for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The M. A. Armstrong Law Firm will present a two-hour workshop that will cover choosing a business structure, naming your business, maintaining your business entity status and more.

The course is from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Belton Chamber of Commerce, 412 E. Central Ave., Belton.

Participants must reserve a seat at least one day in advance by calling 254-200-2001 or emailing marcusc@workforcelink.com.

AAF-Central Texas to host MasquerADDYS

The 2014 American Advertising Awards will be presented at the MasquerADDYS hosted by the American Advertising Federation-Central Texas at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Courtyard by Marriott in Killeen.

Emcees for the event are Julia Conner and Dave-in-the-Cave from 101.7’s “Poor Excuse for a Morning Show.” The event will feature a silent and social auction, dinner and the awards presentation.

The cost to attend is $40 for professionals and guests, $30 for students. Register for the event by Wednesday by emailing aafcentex@gmail.com or calling 254-501-5820.

Cove EDC offers class on business planning Tuesday

Jason Ehler, with the Small Business Development Center in Temple, will teach a business planning essentials workshop program at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Copperas Cove Public Library, 501 S. Main St., Copperas Cove.

The workshop, hosted by the Copperas Cove Economic Development Center, will discuss critical planning methods to start and be successful at running your own business.

Attendees can learn to create, measure and implement a business plans.

Local chambers to close for Presidents Day

The Greater Killeen, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove chambers of commerce will be closed Monday to observe Presidents Day.

Business resource center plans Facebook class

The Central Texas Business Resource Center will have a workshop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday on how businesses can use Facebook as an effective networking and marketing tool.

The hands-on session will cover an introduction to the social media platform, statistics and trends and the basics of operating a Facebook page. Attendees can bring their computer devices. Wi-Fi will be available.

The cost is $25 per person, payable at the door. Attendees must register at least one day in advance on Facebook or by calling 254-200-2001.

Leadership Killeen members schedule class Wednesday

Leadership Killeen will have Business and Economics Day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to learn about future economic growth in Killeen and hear about the contributions of business leaders to the area.

The daylong class is at the Central Texas Workforce Center, 300 Cheyenne Drive, Killeen.

While the current Leadership Killeen class is full, professionals can find out about future programs by calling the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce at 254-526-9551.

Killeen chamber’s next mixer is Thursday

Modern TV and Appliance will host the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce’s February mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Mixers are an opportunity to meet other chamber members. No registration is required. Food and drinks will be provided. Call the chamber at 254-526-9551.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Chick-fil-A

The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Chick-fil-A from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at 202 Robert Griffin III Blvd., Copperas Cove.

Young Professionals to learn over lunch

The Greater Killeen Young Professionals will have a monthly luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Let Us Do The Cooking Cafe, 203 W. Jasper Drive, Killeen.

The luncheons give young professionals the opportunity to connect with and learn from the community’s business and civic leaders.

No RSVP is required. Lunch is free for Young Professionals members and $5 for nonmembers.

Precision Urgent Care joins Cove chamber

The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Precision Urgent Care from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Five Hills shopping center in Copperas Cove.
