Heights chamber announces upcoming scheduled events

• Coffee Connection is at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Balance Massage & Bodywork at 101 Central Texas Expressway, Suite B, Harker Heights.

• A Business After-Hours Mixer is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Metroplex Hospital, 2201 S. Clear Creek Road, Killeen.

• The second annual 5K Stompede is at 8 a.m. Saturday at Harker Heights Community Park.

The fifth annual Food, Wine and Brew Festival is from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Harker Heights Community Park.

The board of directors meets at 9 a.m. Sept. 18 in the chamber boardroom.

First-time homebuyer seminar Saturday in Killeen

The city of Killeen’s Community Development Division — HOME Program along with Francine Stanton with Coldwell Banker United Realtors and Mazen Diab with Chase will be conducting a free first-time homebuyer seminar from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Killeen Arts & Activities Center in the Community Development Training Room, 802 N. Second St., building E, next to Head Start.

Attendees will learn the pros and cons of homeownership, budgeting, goal setting, credit ratings, pre-approval and how to choose a mortgage lender and Realtor, home inspections and warranties, making an offer on a home, the closing process and the responsibilities of home ownership.

Center plans business seminars in September

The Central Texas Business Resource Center plans several workshops this month.

WRITING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS PLAN: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday — This workshop will discuss the basics of a business plan and review specific techniques to use in order to write a persuasive business plan. A workbook for preparing a business plan is included. Cost is $25.

TECHNIQUES FOR PROMOTING YOUR BUSINESS: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 — This workshop will discuss specifics about how to market a business and budget for related costs. A workbook for preparing a marketing plan is included. Cost is $25.

BASICS OF OPENING A RESTAURANT: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 24 — This workshop will discuss the fundamentals and requirements involved in starting a new restaurant business. A Q&A session is included. Cost is $25.
