American Advertising Federation requests award submissions
American Advertising Federation-Central Texas is taking entries for the 2013 American Advertising Awards Competition, formerly the ADDY Awards.
To be eligible for consideration, all work must have been published or aired between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2013.
Entries can be submitted until 5 p.m. Wednesday for $85 for members, $110 for nonmembers and $55 for students.
The American Advertising Awards honor advertising excellence in the aspects of advertising and marketing including print, broadcast, out-of-home, speciality advertising, electronic and public service advertising for both professionals and students.

Heights chamber cuts ribbon for clothing store
The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Maurice’s from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in Market Heights, 201 E. Central Texas Expressway, Suite 280, Harker Heights.
Housing development joins Harker Heights chamber
The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Evergreen Estates and Lennar Homes from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at 2600 Douglas Fir Drive, Harker Heights.
Central Texas Business Resource Center plans restaurant class Tuesday
The Central Texas Business Resource Center will have a workshop class geared toward the basics of opening a restaurant from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 300 Cheyenne in Killeen.
The event will discuss the fundamentals and requirements involved in starting a new restaurant and include a question- and-answer session.
The cost is $25.

Residents are invited to find out what the Killeen Independent School District’s Career Center is all about and tour the facility at an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 1320 Stagecoach Road.

Killeen chamber invites businesses to join Killeen ISD’s Career Expo
The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce is inviting business community members to take part in the 2014 Killeen Independent School District College and Career Expo for eighth-grade students from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The expo replaces traditional career fairs previously held on individual middle school campuses. About 2,750 students enrolled in the eighth grade will attend.
