A Killeen car wash business is expanding its operations to Fort Hood and Austin. Locations are scheduled to open next year.
Plans for constructing two new facilities by the Killeen-based the Car Wash Barn came to fruition earlier this year. “We broke ground officially in Austin last week,” said Curtis Emmons, owner of the Car Wash Barn. “We should be breaking ground on Fort Hood before the end of the year.”
Both locations should be open by March.
The expansion to the Austin market will allow the company to continue to open stores throughout the area, Emmons said. Locating in Austin will build the brand name in the new market, while the company continues to seek locations in Georgetown, Round Rock and other cities north of Austin.
“We went as far as we wanted to go and then will work our way back,” Emmons said.
Regular customers such as Jeffery Reed were glad to hear about the Austin expansion. “If they are local, then it is good for them to be expanding.”
The Car Wash Barn is a good operation and should be growing, he said. Reed uses its service once a week in either Copperas Cove or Killeen.
A Fort Hood location on Clear Creek Road near the Main Exchange will provide a midway point in the current market with locations already in Killeen, Copperas Cove and Temple, Emmons said. It also will provide a closer location for soldiers who already use the company’s facilities.
“It being close to the post? Yeah, that is nice,” said Patrick Chragualaf, a soldier living in Killeen, who washes his car two or three times a month and prefers to use The Car Wash Barn.
“I like my car to be clean,” he said.
Emmons said he plans to open a total of 10 locations. Its first location opened in 2008 at the intersection of Stan Schlueter Loop and Farm-to-Market 2410 in Killeen.
