AUSTIN — Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas Inc. announced Michelle Carter was appointed to the organization’s board of directors.

Carter is the founding executive director of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas in Belton.

With degrees in counseling and psychology, she has more than 17 years of experience working in the child abuse field through counseling, training, consulting and nonprofit management.

Carter is a licensed professional counselor and supervisor and has nonprofit management certification.

She also serves on the Central Texas Family Violence Task Force Executive Committee, the Child Fatality Review Team, the United Way Chrome and Carols Committee and the Child Advocacy Centers of Texas executive directors committee. Carter also has served on the Safe Kids Mid Tex Board of Directors.

Earlier this year, the Central Texas United Way named Carter the Executive Director of the Year.

In 2012, the Belton center was named Agency of the Year.

Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas is the statewide association for the 68 local centers.

Each local center works with the local prosecutor, law enforcement personnel, Child Protective Services employees, and medical and mental health professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation of the most challenging child abuse cases.

Last year, almost 40,000 children received vital services at a children’s advocacy center in Texas.
