A Killeen home builder started construction on 44 residences in a new neighborhood, University Village, last week.

The city issued 22 duplex construction permits to Jamie Herring Custom Homes on Thursday, city records stated. The duplexes on Studyhall Loop will cost between $140,000 and $145,000. The total estimated construction cost is $3.1 million.

Construction still leaves room for additional residences in the 53-lot, 14-acre neighborhood. Seventeen of the lots will consist of townhomes, and the remaining 14 lots will be sold to other owners.

Owner Jamie Herring, whose company is a partner for the development of University Village, said construction on the 22 duplexes should take about six months.
