COPPERAS COVE — The Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation released an anticipated timeline of Nov. 4 for selecting a Narrows Technology and Business Park contractor.
“A lot of people have been asking us about this,” said Polo Enriquez, the Cove EDC’s executive director.
The timeline shows the governing body has already requested bids for developing the 72-acre business park. Construction of the park will consist of extending Robert Griffin III Boulevard, building Charles Tillman Way and installing other utilities.
Opening proposals from contractors should take place Oct. 16, and the board should make its selection Oct. 24 before sending the project to the Copperas Cove City Council for approval.
“It is all going well in the fact that we have seen a lot of interest in the project,” Enriquez said.
The corporation is concerned, however, that its $1.8 million construction cost estimate may be lower than the bids received, he said. The estimate is more than a year old and the economic climate has changed during that year.
“With a good mix of bidders, you may get close to that (price),” said Jimmy Clark, EDC board member.
If the timeline is followed, the corporation may break ground on the project before December, with preconstruction meetings scheduled in November.
The project is estimated to be completed in 180 days after it starts, the timeline stated.
