COPPERAS COVE — The word is out: A new Chick-fil-A restaurant is opening this week in the city’s Five Hills shopping center.

“I absolutely love it and can’t wait,” said Cypress Nolan, who lives in Cove and worked for Chick-fil-A when he lived in Virginia. “I love their food and the company was actually really cool to work for. They had good safety standards and good food, and you can’t beat that.”

The grand opening will be at 6 a.m. Thursday at 202 Robert Griffin III Blvd.

The new restaurant will create 70 new jobs, seat approximately 155 and will offer free Wi-Fi.

“It’s really exciting because you can only eat so much burger and fries,” said Brian Carley, as he sat in the Chick-fil-A parking lot, waiting to pick up his daughter’s friend, who was at employee training at the franchise. “I’ve seen nothing but Cove grow up, and this will raise the economy and create more jobs for young people.”

The Cove menu will feature Chick-fil-A’s new antibiotic-free chicken, and will include its new line of premium salads including the grilled market salad and the grilled chicken cool wrap.

“It’s awesome; now I don’t have to go to Killeen anymore,” said Michelle Allan, a server at Lil Tex Restaurant. “I would love to be one of the first 100 to get free food for a year, but I have to work. Maybe I can get the day off.”

As is traditional with the franchise, the First 100 Giveaway will be held 24 hours before the grand opening. One hundred lucky residents will receive free meals every week for one year.

Jiovahnni Carmen, an employee at the Panda Express, located directly across from Chick-fil-A, said he doesn’t worry about the competition for business.

“I like how they operate and run the business,” he said. “It’s not a competition or rivalry; it just means more options for people to get a fresh meal right away. It’s good for business.”

John Heckstein agreed. “It’s great that we have a new restaurant,” he said. “It’ll be more business and a great boost for the city.”
