A day care is opening in Killeen that will allow drop-in care for children ages 6 weeks to 13 years old.
After hearing a story on the news about a single mom getting in trouble for leaving her children in a car while the mother interviewed for a job, Angela Sunday Cobb felt a drop-in service was needed.
“I was a single mother, and I had stuff I had to do. I had doctor’s appointments and I wasn’t able to take my kids to some of those appointments,” Cobb said.
She said paying for drop-in care at day care centers is almost like paying for full-time care, when care was only needed for a couple of hours.
“Then there were times when I wanted to go out and I didn’t have anybody to keep my kids just for a couple hours.”
Cobb has been running an in-home day care since 2011, with a small break in 2013.
Parents needing care can utilize We Play Drop Zone at 617 N. Eighth St., Suite C, in Killeen, for a minimum of two hours to a maximum of five hours; however, some full-time care may be available on a case-by-case basis.
The center is a state-licensed day care center.
The hourly rates for one child is $6 per hour, two children $11 per hour, three children $14 per hour, and four or more children $18 per hour. In addition to the hourly rate, a $20 annual registration fee will also be charged.
Day care hours are Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A grand opening event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today and will feature food, games and entertainment.
Families who register during the grand opening will receive a 50 percent discount on the registration fee, making it only $10 to sign up.
Cobb said she will be looking to hire additional caregivers next month. Those who are interested in a job can stop by and fill out an application.
