First Texas Bank building new headquarters

A Temple-based contractor will build a nearly $3.8 million banking facility for First Texas Bank at 3514 S. W.S. Young Drive in Killeen.

The city of Killeen issued a building permit to Baird/Williams Construction for a 10,717-square-foot future banking office on Wednesday, a report from the city stated.

“This is going to be the headquarters,” said Pat Kaufman, First Texas Bank president.

The banking institution will move about 45 people from its office space, 704 N. Gray St., to the W.S. Young Drive location, which is expected to open by September.

First Texas operations will remain downtown, Kaufman said. The financial institution will remodel its drive-through facility, 716 N. Eighth St., into a full-service bank at the same time the new building is being constructed.

“Downtown is a beautiful place to do business, and we wouldn’t dream of moving out of downtown,” Kaufman said.

Having been located at the Gray Street facility since 1968, the downtown operations have “outgrown” the office space available, Kaufman said.

Once the drive-through location is remodeled and the W.S. Young Drive facility is completed, the bank probably will sell the Gray Street office location, he said.

Residential permits

Killeen issued 17 construction permits to Killeen-based Purser Construction for duplexes in the 3100, 3200 and 3300 blocks of Linage Loop, a city report stated. The estimated cost for multifamily dwellings range between $145,000 and $160,000. All the duplexes are projected to cost $2.6 million.

Two permits were issued for single-family homes in Killeen.

Harker Heights-based Carothers Homes received a construction permit for a home in the 3000 block of Inspiration Drive on Dec. 9. The home has an estimated cost of $209,000.

Killeen issued a building permit to Dallas-based Ashton Austin Residential for the construction of a single-family dwelling at 6109 Tanzanite Drive. The home’s construction cost was estimated at $176,000.

Three new single-family residences can start construction in Harker Heights after receiving permits between Dec. 9 and Friday.

The city issued construction permits to Killeen-based M.A. Hoard Construction, Carothers Homes and Fort Worth-based DR Horton, a Harker Heights report stated. The homes are for the 1403 block of Loblolly Drive, 1608 Bristle Cone Drive and 800 Tuscan Road.

Their costs range between $200,000 and $247,000. The total value of the three homes was about $661,900 in construction costs.

Nolanville issued a permit for a mobile home in Cimaron Mobile Home Park at 1400 E. Avenue H, Lot No. 32. Its cost was estimated at $5,000.

Copperas Cove did not issue any commercial or residential building permits between Dec. 6 and Thursday.
