An outdoor recreation retail chain plans to expand into Killeen next year.

Gander Mountain announced Monday it will open in Killeen in the spring. The store will be in a new 45,600-square-foot facility on East Central Texas Expressway, between West Trimmier Road and Athens Street.

“Gander Mountain is already a well-known and trusted name in Texas among those who love the outdoors, and who enjoy great traditions like hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and camping,” said David Pratt, Gander Mountain’s president and CEO. “We are thrilled to bring a new Gander Mountain store to Killeen, and give our friends in Central Texas more opportunities to experience our top-quality gear and knowledgeable service at great prices.”

The store will join others already in Texas cities including Amarillo, Beaumont, College Station, Houston, Lewisville, Lubbock, Mesquite, Round Rock, San Antonio, Sherman, Spring, Sugar Land, Texarkana, Tyler and Arlington.

Other new locations are coming to west Houston, Waco and Lake Worth in the fall and a new store will come to El Paso in the spring, according to a company news release. “We’re in the midst of a pretty substantial expansion,” said Jess Myers, a spokesman for Gander Mountain.

Myers said Texas is an ideal location for the stores, because of the large number of hunting and fishing enthusiasts in the state.
