A popular California-based hamburger chain may be on the way to Killeen.

According to a Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce newsletter, In-N-Out Burger plans to open a restaurant near the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 190 and W.S. Young Drive.

The chain started as a drive-thru hamburger stand in Baldwin Park, Calif., in 1948 and began expanding outside the state in the early 1990s.

In-N-Out opened its first non-California location in 1992 in Las Vegas, Nev. Over the next eight years, it opened locations in Nevada, Arizona and Utah.

In May 2011, the company moved into Texas, where it opened two locations in Allen and Frisco. Today, In-N-Out operates 18 Texas locations, including Arlington, Dallas and Fort Worth. The company’s corporate website states that restaurants in Mansfield and Grapevine are in the works.

The newsletter did not state when the Killeen location is set to open, and In-N-Out did not return requests for comment.
