The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Just Breathe With Noelani, a one-on-one yoga instructor, at the chamber Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015. The business is owned by Noelani Perry, a former obstetrician who now teaches yoga as a means of total health for mind, body and emotion.

COPPERAS COVE — “Yoga isn’t about being bendy, it’s about restoring balance where it is needed.”

The motto for Just Breathe Yoga with Noelani pretty much sums up how Dr. Noelani Perry feels about what yoga can do for anyone. And as a former physician who practiced obstetrics overseas, Perry said she is more than ready, and capable, of using yoga to complement or reinforce existing self-care prescribed or recommended by a health care provider.

“Yoga came into my life through a gym membership several years ago and I’m so glad that I did that because it helped me so much with physical tension,” Perry said. “I knew there were a lot of benefits, but I didn’t have a lot of time to explore. But a few years ago while my husband was deployed, I wanted to know more about my yoga.”

Perry decided to become an instructor at that time and said her background as a physician helped her with understanding personal limitations and conditions and how to use yoga to complement treatment for issues such as back, neck and joint pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, insomnia, high blood pressure and heart disease.

“I realized I had something to give to people. Not just the physical tension could be addressed, but the entirety of what we need to restore balance,” said Perry, a one-on-one yoga instructor who works on location.

Having small businesses choose to make Cove their place of business is wonderful, said Betty Price, Chamber of Commerce president.

“Any time a business, whether it’s an individual, small or large business comes here, we see that as an investment because they are investing their time and their money in this community,” Price said. “A lot of time people forget that. It means a lot, because they could have selected any other city in this region and they chose Copperas Cove. We’re happy they see the potential in the community the way we do.”
