Killeen saw an increased amount of building permits for single-family homes during the first week of August, issuing 21 permits totaling nearly $3 million.
Eight of those permits went to Lennar Homes in Killeen. The company is building five homes on Taffinder Lane, two on Cottonpatch Drive and one on Pyrite Drive.
Vale Building Group LLC is building two homes on Fiesta Oak Drive, and Ashford Homes is building two homes on Castle Gap Drive.
The remainder of the permits went to various housing companies, including Jubilee Homes Ltd., Barnes Homebuilders, Stylecraft Builders Central, Tippit Homes, Centex/Pulte Homes Inc., D&A Homes, and Carothers Homes Inc. The companies are building homes on West Little Dipper, Cody James, Rusack, Brooklyn Kay, Nyla and Rockwall drives, Claymore and 58th streets, and Deerwood Loop.
Hilary Shine, spokeswoman for the city of Killeen, said the city typically averages from 70 to 100 permits per month.
“It’s pretty normal to have 20 (permits) at a time,” Shine said. “Sometimes it’s just the nature of the business where they come and apply for permits all at one time. There’s not really a certain trend we can point to.”
Killeen also issued commercial remodeling permits to Legacy Builders Co. for the shoe store Journey’s in the Killeen Mall, and another to the owner of cellphone store Global Wireless. The permits totaled $318,000.
Purser Homes received a permit for an $89,000 project to lay asphalt and concrete at Toyota of Killeen.
Killeen also issued a pair of $9,000 new commercial permits to the Killeen Independent School District for two portable buildings at Ellison High School.
Copperas Cove issued permits for 107 projects totaling $1.5 million — $1.1 million of which were for new single-family homes.
The five homes are on Settlement Road, Horizon Street and three on Neff Drive.
Harker Heights issued $1.5 million in permits, including two single-family homes on Cayuga and Broken Arrow drives.
Nolanville did not release permit information for last week by press time.
