HARKER HEIGHTS - Dozens of young professionals gathered at Dana Peak Park's Comanche Gap Pavilion Saturday afternoon for some fun in the sun during the Greater Killeen and Belton Young Professionals second annual Field Day.

"It's good to let loose and have a fun time," said Jesse Duff, owner of Ace Carpet Cleaning in Killeen.

He and his wife, Rebekah, are members of the Young Professionals and came out to have a good time with their friends while showing support for the organization.

The annual event was created last year to help raise awareness and funds for the two Central Texas groups. It's also a way of bringing people together and giving them a chance to mingle, network and have a good time while participating in family-oriented activities.

"Survivor"-themed games also gave the two groups a chance to earn bragging rights through a little friendly competition.

Food, refreshments and entertainment provided by Rare Dog, a band from Lampasas, were all included in Saturday's fundraising event.

The two groups were formed in 2008 to provide an opportunity for area young professionals, ages 25-40, to form relationships that are necessary to help grow their businesses and expand on skills needed to be successful while enhancing the quality of life in the cities they represent.

"What we want to do is make Killeen a place where people want to come live, play and stay," said Jenna Lieser, project manager for the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce and committee member for the field day event.

Lieser said the groups hope this event will become regional and involve a lot more people.

"We want to get the word out," she said. "(Because) we're a fairly new organization."

More than 70 people enjoyed Saturday's activities.

"We're always looking for new members," Killeen Young Professionals social chairperson Desirae Franco said. "And we're constantly looking to show them that we have fun, and we do fun things, so you should join."
