FORT HOOD — The first Subway on post opened Wednesday with special guest Jared Fogle in attendance.

“I do a lot of Subway openings around the country and to do them on military bases means that much more to me,” said the 16-year spokesman of the sandwich chain.

More than 50 people turned out to meet Fogle and enjoy sandwich samples in the new Subway, located in the TJ Mills Food Court and operated by the Fort Hood Exchange.

Fogle rose to prominence in 2000 after going on a Subway diet; he ate Subway sandwiches for a year.

He lost 245 pounds.
