Better Business Bureau Shred Day events resulted in 116,368 pounds of consumers' confidential documents, computer parts and cardboard shredded and recycled. In addition, 10 boxes of old cellphones were recycled.

Nearly 100,000 pounds of paper documents were safely disposed of by certified document destruction specialists in the following locations throughout Central Texas:

Austin – 42,500 pounds

Corpus Christi – 40,000 pounds

Waco – 13,460 pounds

Permian Basin – 4,000 pounds

"We are very proud to be able to expand BBB Shred Day beyond paper documents to include electronic items," said Carrie A. Hurt, president and CEO of BBB serving Central, Coastal, Southwest Texas and the Permian Basin. "It is a great service to the community and the environment when we keep these items out the hands of identity thieves and landfills."
