The Red Lion Hotel at 803 E. Central Texas Expressway opened with a roar, bringing a fresh face to Killeen’s hotel scene. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, hosted by the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, one of the hotel’s new owners, Kulwant Singh, thanked Killeen officials for giving him guidance. “This building will now make money for the city, but it would never have been possible without the assistance of the city officials and the impeccable leadership of Mayor Segarra,” said Singh. Singh will manage the hotel along with his brother, Deepak Verma, and their family. The site formally housed a Howard Johnson Hotel, but sat vacant for more than seven years.
Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra said the hotel is a big challenge that the owners tackled because they wanted to help improve the community. “To have someone come in and renovate the hotel adds a whole lot to our city landscape,” Segarra said.
