Three Killeen-area restaurants operated by Houston Pizza Venture group will donate proceeds from their weekend sales to the victims of the April 2 Fort Hood shooting.

Killeen’s Firehouse Subs and Sure Fire Tacos will donate the profits from Saturday’s sales to the families of the shooting, stated a release from the company. Harker Heights’ Genghis Grill will donate its profits Sunday.

“Killeen and Fort Hood has been very special to us,” said Keith Sullins, president of Houston Pizza Venture.

“This is our opportunity to do what we can to help.”

The businesses are still working out the details on how to donate the money directly to the families without an outside organization taking a cut.

They hope to work with Fort Hood to ensure the families receive the funds raised.

Killeen and Fort Hood supported the Houston-based company’s local establishments, and Houston Pizza Venture wants to be a big part of the community, Sullins said.

The fundraiser is its way of helping those in need during a tragedy.

“We hope to impact (Fort Hood) as much as it has us,” Sullins said.
