COPPERAS COVE — Scott & White ceremonially broke ground Wednesday on a new 15,000-square-foot clinic, with construction to start in the near future.

“Being here will provide a primary care presence to the community of Copperas Cove,” said Richard Naser, Scott & White vice president of central clinics. “We are excited to have the opportunity to open a clinic that will serve the community of Copperas Cove.”

The clinic, 239 W. U.S. Highway 190, will consist of 24 exam rooms, two treatment rooms, an on-site laboratory, X-ray service, physician offices and a conference room.

Scott & White hopes to open the facility with four providers in June 2014 when construction is complete, Naser said.

Two of those providers will be Cove husband-and-wife team, Drs. Karen and Raymond Harrison.

The Harrisons are both familiar with the Scott & White family and the Cove community. They have operated Harrison and Harrison Internal Medicine practice in Cove since 2007. Before starting the internal medicine practices, they worked for Scott & White.

“We have a very close working relationship with Scott & White,” said Raymond Harrison, the new facility’s medical director.

Operating within the Scott & White clinic system will give the practice more access to greater resources, such as the treatment rooms, laboratory and X-ray service, and other newer technologies.

“This will let us pool our resources,” Raymond Harrison said, noting patients will no longer have to leave Cove for the services.

The new clinic is not just an opportunity for Scott & White, but also a great opportunity for Copperas Cove, Karen Harrison said. “We are excited to bring Scott & White to our community, because it is our goal to take care of our community,” she said.

Karen Harrison, a Copperas Cove High School graduate, said she saw the lack of health care options in the city, and decided to establish a practice in the community.

Naser said Scott & White should secure two additional health care providers by the opening date, but wasn’t sure if those providers would be a nurse practitioner or a physician’s assistant.

Once fully staffed, the clinic should be able to serve about 20 to 22 patients per provider per day, he said.

Being in Cove at this location will allow Scott & White to have a centralized location in the city, Naser said.

“Getting access to primary care that is closer to home for our patients continues to be the goal in delivering low-cost, high quality care,” said Dr. Michael Reis, Scott & White’s chairman of family medicine.

Terrific news, both Doctors are outstanding. Thier inclusion into the high-quality of service brought by Scott and White is a huge boon to the local community.

Great news about the clinic, but the pictures of the officals in hard hats and shovels is getting pretty lame.
