TEMPLE — About 150 workers at the Sprint call center in Temple will be job hunting in April after being informed Tuesday their jobs will end March 25. 

“As part of companywide strategic changes previously announced in mid-January, Sprint is eliminating about 150 jobs at its Customer Service Call Center in Temple,” Sprint representative Melinda Tiemeyer said. “Employees affected by the change were informed on Tuesday, March 18.

“The employees were allowed to go home for the day if they wished, will continue to work through March 25 and will be paid through April 8. The employees will be eligible for additional pay and benefits through a separation period, based on their length of service.”

Tiemeyer said the reason for the downsizing is that more customers can go online to manage their accounts and get technical assistance.

She said increased customer satisfaction with online help reduced the number of calls to the call center.

Workforce Solutions of Central Texas can assist those needing help in finding other jobs, Director Jerry Haisler said.

Workforce Solutions has offices in Temple, Killeen and Belton.

Counselors are available to guide job seekers to employment possibilities.
