Inky: E pluribus unum (for inboxes)

There’s no shortage of email apps out there. But Inky provides features that lay the groundwork for it to become a serious contender in the space. The app promises to be a great organizational tool for multiple accounts, and makes it easy to sort out messages such as promotions. It also makes it easier for users to unsubscribe from mailing lists, by providing a link to do so within the app. You can reply to messages with a “one-click” option that inserts standard phrases such as, “You forgot the attachment.”

The menus and features of Inky are easy to use and provide a unified inbox experience. In some moments, however, the app seems to slow down just enough to be annoying — something that the Bethesda, Md., company behind it will have to fix. The app is free for a limited time on iOS devices. An Android app is in development.

FIFA World Cup: Get up-to-date news from Brazil

The world is gripped with World Cup fever right now, and — of course — there’s a simple way to keep up with all of the action on your smartphone. The tournament’s FIFA Official App provides users with a great deal of background information on the teams, as well as live updates from the World Cup stadiums. Users can set their favorite team to get more personalized updates, check standings and catch up on highlights from the day’s games.

You aren’t able to watch video during games, but you can follow the action with live play-by-play updates. There’s also a ton of Twitter interactivity, so you can contribute your thoughts and see what other people are talking about. As a nice touch, the app also allows users to pick from several languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, German and French. Free, for iOS and Android devices.
