Smartphone users have gotten into the habit of taking snaps to share favorite memories. But what about snips? Snippit, an audio app for iOS devices, allows users to pull four to 10-second clips from songs in their iTunes libraries to share with captions and pictures. (Users can also pull from a collection of 30-second samples from the iTunes store if they can’t find the right song.) The app will work with users’ Facebook or Twitter accounts, or they can opt to keep their updates on the Snippit network. From the app, users can browse the running feed of posts from all Snippit users or find accounts to follow. The app is a fun way to add a little extra something to the memories you record on your smartphone and moves us a little closer to realizing our secret desire to live a life that comes with a soundtrack. Free, for iOS devices.
Swerve and Destroy: Take aim at boredom
A quick and easy game that measures your reflexes, Swerve and Destroy is a great time-waster that tests how dexterous players can be while tilting their phones. Players, as a small, white ball, have to avoid and defeat a swarm of enemy red dots by collecting weapons and directing them in the right areas of the screen. Different weapon icons do different things — douse other players with water, send out a ring of fire, etc. — and most trigger immediately. Therefore, much of the strategy in the game is about catching the right weapons at just the right time in order to take out enough enemies to make it worth your while. Simple, bite-size and fun, Swerve and Destroy is a great way to get in a game or two during small lulls in the day. Free, for Android devices.
