Richard (Dick) Young is a business owner in Killeen. TX. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX in 1973. He was born and raised here in Killeen in a military family. His Dad would get deployed and the family stayed and made Killeen their home. Before going to Sam Houston State he graduated from Killeen High School . He met his wife, Mary Teresa Bay,of in the 6th grade while attending Fowler Elementary. They married and had a 42 year marriage of unconditional love before she passed away from Brain Cancer in December of 2013.
Mr. Young has 2 children Alayna, 27 and Jerrod, 36. Alayna and husband Carl White and lives in Fairbanks Alaska with their 2 children Jayden and Zoey. Jarrod is married to Tasha Maxon and lives in Killeen with their 2 children Amber and Riley.
During his professional career he has owned and operated several new/ used car dealerships and where he employed and managed over 700 employees at one time. He currently owns Xtra Thin Weight Loss Centers of America and co-owns “Big Daddy and Son Backdoor BBQ with son Jarrod. He attends The First Baptist Church of Killeen and many other local churches.
Mr Young has chaired many committees in Killeen and one of his major accomplishments is serving 3 terms on the City Council from 2000-2006. During this time they accomplished many things like the Killeen Airport,Killeen Conference Center, Killeen Center for the Arts, Killeen Police Headquarters, Downtown revitalization, WS Young expansion,Texas A&M Central Texas,Andy K. Wells Hike and Bike Trail and the Lions Club Park Senior Center and Lions Park Athletic Center and the new solid waste transfer station. He also chaired the Airport/ State Hwy 201/university overlay committee,that set up the development rules and regulations that will guide and protect those areas future orderly development.
Dick has represented the city’s interest during several trips to Washington DC, meeting with several US Senators and Congressmen like Kay Bailey Hutchison, John Cornyn, John Carter and many others from each political party while discussing Killeen needs.
Dick Young is President Elect of the Texas District of the National Exchange Club of America. He was named the Exchangite of the year in 2012.
Above all these things the one thing that Dick and his late wife Teresa ,are most proud of is the association with their grassroots 501c3 organization called “Ride for a Child” a group that has raised over $70,000 for child abuse prevention. 100% of this money goes back to the community for child abuse prevention.
