The Central Texas Sickle Cell Anemia Association can expect another $1,000 to add to their total from Sunday's telethon contingent upon the Babysitter's appearance.

Associates from the Copperas Cove Wal-Mart were at the Plaza Hotel Sunday to help man the phones, but in addition to the manpower Wal-Mart donated $540, and will make an additional $1,000 donation if the Babysitter, 92.3 KIIZ program director, emcees their Black History Month event.

"I am going to do it, and I do it because I care," the Babysitter said in an e-mail.

"I know in my heart I can make a difference. I have been with them from day one as their host of the yearly 'Sickle Cell Anemia Telethon,' and 25 years later I am still here and still want to be the person who makes a difference in the lives of so many who have this dreadful disease," he added.

"Just think, if a thousand people would send a dollar, it would be enough to purchase of medicine for 20 children" he said.

Wal-Mart's Black History Month event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday in Copperas Cove.
