Bell County Commissioners OK hazardous waste disposal event

BELTON - If you have dangerous household objects in your home you don't know how to get rid of, attend a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day to have your trash safely disposed of for free.

The Bell County Commissioners' Court approved the event, which is to take place in Copperas Cove, at a meeting Monday.

This will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at the solid waste operational center at 2605 South Farm-to-Market Road 116.

The Central Texas Council of Governments, which is hosting the event, will accept paints, automobile batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners/chemicals, pesticides, flammables, corrosives and other hazardous household products.

The group will accept up to eight tires without rims from passenger cars and pickups from a single household. Large quantities from businesses, farms or commercial operations will not be accepted.

Prohibited items include infectious and medical wastes, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and explosives.

Belton Fire Department to distribute fans
