The Copperas Cove Solid Waste Department will give back to its customers through its bi-annual citywide cleanup event Saturday.
Held once in the spring and again in the fall, the event allows residents to get rid of unwanted trash that may have accrued in homes and properties.
"We do it to help the residents who have an active utility account to give something back," Silvia Rhoads, recycling coordinator, said.
Accepted items include household waste; brush and yard waste; junk; scrap metal; appliances; tires; up to five gallons of used oil and antifreeze and any recyclables
All yard waste and brush must be in Kraft bags, which can be purchased at city hall, the central fire station, the water department and the solid waste department for 31 cents plus tax.
A certified letter of refrigerant removal is required for disposal of freezers, refrigerators and air conditioners.
Recyclables include cardboard, aluminum cans, newspaper and inserts, steel cans, plastics 1 and 2 without lids and telephone books.
Rhoads said up to eight tires from passenger cars or trucks will be accepted, but the rims must be removed.
Household hazardous waste and construction debris will not be accepted. Rhoads said the department is working on accepting household hazardous waste next year.
At the last cleanup event, Rhoads said there were approximately 186 people who showed up, significantly greater than the average response at the cleanup events.
"We would like to have more people take advantage of this," she said.
