Three businesses have moved into Cove Terrace Shopping Center in the last few months, giving Coveites new shopping options.
Game X Change, J's Sushi (now J's Uptown Café) and American Paint and Body all have moved into the shopping center. Two of the three are open for business.
Elizabeth Estrada, store manager of Game X Change at 214 Cove Terrace, said the store opened its doors May 16 and has been "insanely busy" ever since.
The store sells and trades used video games, accessories and consoles, as well as DVDs, Blu-rays and Anime box sets. Used iPads, iPods and iPhones also are available, as are some unused items.
Estrada, who also manages the Killeen Game X Change location, said this is the first time the franchise has opened a store in Copperas Cove, and the store welcomed all customers.
The former J's Sushi was located on Second Street. Co-owner Jung Kim said the business moved to 106 Cove Terrace because it was a better location that received more traffic.
J's Uptown Café opened July 9. Kim said it serves more Korean dishes than the previous location, though sushi is still the restaurant's specialty. She said more than 40 kinds of sushi rolls are available.
"It's low-cost with a better quality," she said of the restaurant. "And it tastes great, everybody says so. So far we've had all the returning customers, and they've all liked it."
American Paint and Body is not yet open for business at its Cove Terrace location.
Jennie Snelling, regional vice president of Quine & Associates Inc., which manages Cove Terrace properties, said it is not uncommon for businesses to move in and out of the shopping center, mostly for expansion or relocation purposes.
"Our small spaces, they're good incubators," she said. "They're good for starting out a business, and then typically they'll relocate to a larger location."
She said other businesses will purchase a space in the shopping center while building a larger location elsewhere.
Regardless of the reason, Snelling said, businesses are drawn to Cove Terrace.
"When you've got anchors like Bealls, Dollar General and Family Dollar, that's going to be a draw for other businesses wanting to start up here."
