About 20 locals will take on the Harlem Ambassadors Tuesday night at the Copperas Cove High School gym in a high-flying, comedic basketball show with a positive message.

This will be the fourth year the team has performed in the city. Darrell Clemons with the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce said the chamber asked the Ambassadors to return because it is a family-oriented and fun event for the community.

This year, the ticket sponsor is Bank of America and dinner will be provided by Bella Sera Italian Restaurant after the game. Comfort Suites will provide rooms for the teams.

Copperas Cove High School Athletic Director Jack Welch, and chamber president and vice president Betty Price and Marty Smith will act as referees. The Harlem Ambassadors Professional Show Basketball team was conceived in 1997 by professional sports manager Dale Moss. The team travels country-wide to perform at more than 200 events between September and May each year.

The team of ambassadors is a group of men and women who have attended college, played on a college basketball team and deliver a message of promoting education and being drug-free. In addition to flashy slam dunks and basketball tricks, the team performs comedy and dance routines that include audience members and the opposing team of local business people.

The lead show play of the ambassadors is Lade Majic, who played for the University of Missouri and several basketball leagues, as well as coaching at the high school, college and professional levels.

Representatives from Copperas Cove businesses ranging from McDonalds, Domino's and Schlotzky's to Real Life Computers, First Texas Bank and The Cove Herald will play for the Cove Hotshots against the ambassadors. Clemons said the chamber has more than 1,000 tickets available for the event beginning at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the door, from any of the chamber ambassadors or at the chamber office located at 204 E. Robertson Ave. in Copperas Cove. Clemons also said a group discount is available for 50 or more people before the show.
