A new convenience store opening this fall in Copperas Cove is hoping to live up to its name.

The 3,000-square-foot Quality Star, located at the corner of North First Street and Farm-to-Market 1113, aims to provide a just that: quality.

“Everything’s going to be brand new,” said owner Adam Issa, who also operates the downtown Copperas Hills Food Mart. “It’s going to be a high class store.”

Quality Star will offer Exxon brand gas and diesel, and in addition to groceries and basic supplies, the convenience store also will contain a take-out restaurant selling fried chicken, fish and shrimp.

The $1.2 million project received a boost Tuesday from the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corp., which offered up to $5,000 in economic incentives to assist in relocating a utility pole from the property that is currently blocking the proposed entrance from North First Street.

“We like to help local businesspeople who are expanding in our community,” CCEDC Marketing Director Monica Hull said. “We’re here to help with atypical infrastructure expenses.”

Issa said the growing residential population in the northern areas of Copperas Cove and the proposed Texas Department of Transportation northern bypass create an valuable business opportunity.

“I’ve seen that corner have a lot of potential to it. I think it’s a great location,” he said. “We can light up that corner a whole lot better.”

The project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion by October.
