The Cove Herald

The Cove's newest pizza offering, New York Pizza on 2nd Street, opened in March 2009, in the location that was previously Russ' Pizza. Manager Arthur Munez, of Killeen said Russ' Pizza had been his family's favorite for years and they drove to Cove from Killeen every Friday to partake of the tasty pie.

When their favorite shop closed, Arthur's father, Carlos Munez decided that the area needed good pizza and with no restaurant experience, he took over the location and re-opened the shop as New York Pizza.

"We have the best pizza in town," said Arthur Munez. "The difference is the oven - it makes a crispier crust."

The restaurant offers pizza, wings, subs and salads.

"Everything is fresh and made to order," said Munez. "My wings are grilled, not deep fried."

The location has a small dining room, but most of their business is delivery. They have five employees. On busy afternoons, the crew moves about, preparing orders like a carefully choreographed dance. Customers are greeted with the fragrant scent of baking pizza and a warm, welcoming family atmosphere.

"The business day is Friday," said Munez. "Fridays get crazy."

New York Pizza uses only fresh ingredients and nothing is prepared until ordered. Customers return because they want something special and New York Pizza provides quality and value, said Munez.

The price of a one-topping large pizza is $7.50.

New York Pizza is located at 212 S. 2nd Street in Copperas Cove. Restaurant hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

"For really good pizza, check us out," said Munez.
