Residents of Copperas Cove are invited to welcome the new Fort Hood Garrison Commander, Col. Mark Freitag and his family, during a reception in their honor Wednesday.

The public can welcome Freitag and his family as new residents of Copperas Cove at the Allin House, located at 401 N. Main St., beginning at 5 p.m.

Freitag became the Army installation's newest commander in July when Col. William V. Hill III was deployed to Kuwait to serve on Third Army's operations staff after three years of command.

Guests are asked to RSVP by today with the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce, chamber@copperascove.com. City officials will introduce the colonel and City Manager Andrea Gardner will speak on the importance of the city's relationship with Fort Hood.

Betty Price, vice president of the chamber, said light refreshments will be provided.

Freitag has 22 years of experience as an Army family member, 22 years of experience on active duty and comes to Fort Hood from the National War College in Washington, D.C. Before that, he served as the military assistant to the deputy defense secretary.

He grew up in a military family and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy. He was commissioned as an armor officer in 1988. He and his wife, Patty, have a daughter, Bethany.
