A school bus flipped on its side after it collided with a truck last Thursday morning, causing minor injuries.

The Copperas Cove Independent School District bus, carrying two passengers, was crossing U.S. Highway 190 from Garden Avenue when it failed to yield the right of way and collided with a silver Dodge truck heading west. The collision occurred at about 6:30 a.m.

A third vehicle, a red Dodge Stratus, was at a stop sign on Pecan Cove Road heading south when it was hit by both vehicles, said Lt. Danny Austin, Copperas Cove Police Department public information officer.

Because of the way the vehicles collided, the bus continued to move across the road and ended up in the ditch, Austin said.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Fort Hood's Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Austin said. The two passengers, a student and a bus aide were not injured. All three were wearing seat belts, Bobby Ott, CCISD deputy superintendent, said in a news release.

The drivers of the other two vehicles said they suffered minor injuries but were not transported to a medical facility.

Another bus was dispatched in the bus' place and ran late Thursday morning, Ott said. He declined to comment on any disciplinary action against the driver, citing an open police investigation and employee confidentiality.

Copperas Cove police, fire department and emergency medical services personnel responded to the collision.
