Brandi LeBlanc, Attic Breeze business development manager for international sales, looks over the plant expansion near Gatesville.

GATESVILLE — Size does matter.

Attic Breeze, a company that manufactures solar-powered attic fans and skylights, is living up to its company motto with an expansion project that will more than double its plant at 1370 Farm-to-Market 116.

Early this month, the company broke ground on a 25,000-square-foot building alongside the 17,000-square-foot facility built in 2009.

“This (expansion) will help us with more equipment space and more warehouse space,” said owner Travis Hipp.

The new building, expected to be finished in May, will free up room in the older building to add more office space for a growing sales staff, Hipp said.

Attic Breeze is asking Coryell County to extend the tax abatement granted for the original building to include the new construction, Hipp said.

Under the current schedule for original construction of about $500,000, the tax abatement is graduated over seven years, from 90 percent the first year down to 10 percent the seventh year.

Hipp is asking that the additional $310,000 property value added by the expansion be rolled into the abatement schedule.

The project will create about 20 construction jobs.

Hipp said the increased production from the expansion will probably add five jobs to the current 15-member workforce.

Like the existing plant, the new structure will include a solar-panel array on the roof to provide electricity.

The company has annual sales of $2.5 million to $3 million, according to the application.

Attic Breeze makes 30 models of solar-powered fans and tubular skylights, Hipp said, and ships 6,000 to 8,000 units to customers each year.

The Coryell County Commissioners Court has not taken action on the tax abatement application.
