The shelves were fully stocked and the prescription medicines were in place as CVS pharmacy opened its doors Sunday morning in Copperas Cove.

Dozens of residents started their morning by checking out the store, located on the corner of U.S. Highway 190 and Avenue D.

“We’ve been trying to get to Copperas Cove for a long time,” said Stephanie Beavers, store manager. “So far we are doing very well. We have a lot of lookers and a lot of people signing up for our rewards program.”

Weavers, who has been with CVS for five years, recently moved from Georgetown to help launch the Cove location.

“So far we are hearing from the community that they are happy that we are here, because they had to drive to Temple,” she said. “We also had a lot of people who were driving all the way from Lampasas and that’s why they decided to put one here.”

Customers both old and new were impressed with the store on opening day.

“I think it’s awesome, especially if you don’t want to go into a bigger store,” said Stacy Alzona of Copperas Cove.

Alzona was pleased that she could once again shop for cosmetics and hair products in one location near her home.

“I’m glad they are doing stuff more for Copperas Cove and bringing other stores here,” she said. “It’s a good thing that will be good for the whole community.”

Myron Colson, of Copperas Cove, also was excited about the development of the community, as he was a first-time CVS customer.

“It’s a new experience for me,” he said. “It’s nice to have another option in a new location. I like to see Cove grow, and that we are getting more businesses in this end of town and not everything up on Five Hills.”

He said the additional store competition means better prices for shoppers.

“We have an excellent rewards program that offers 2 percent back on what you spent for the quarter,” Weaver said. “We have prescriptions, household and grocery items. CVS is a small company, and we can do a lot of one-on-one with our customers.”
