Dave’s Sports Bar and Grill in Cove teamed up with Essayons Motorcycle Club Aug. 3 to raise nearly $1,400 for Families in Crisis with a lingerie show.

The fundraising event, Chrome and Lace, was a collective effort by owner David McBride and Don Motl, president of the Essayons.

“We work with the motorcycle community very well, so we decided to put together this party,” McBride said. “It was an amazing night.”

More than 250 people attended the fundraiser at Dave’s Sports Bar and Grill, formerly known as Dave’s Ice House.

McBride, who previously has worked with Families in Crisis, suggested the donation go to the nonprofit organization and Motl agreed.

“Dave had mentioned it to me about the women’s battered shelter, and I just thought that was a pretty good thing to do,” Motl said. “It helps out the women, so I was all down for it.”

But it was Motl who came up with the idea for a lingerie show.

“I wanted to do something different because everybody does a bikini bike wash,” he said. “We started out with six (models) but before the night was over with, there was quite a few of them up there.”

Cindie’s Lingerie in Killeen donated the 21 lingerie pieces which were modeled in the show and auctioned off for charity.

The store also donated several items that were given away as door prizes.

All of the proceeds went to Families in Crisis.

William Hall, director of operations for Families in Crisis, said local fundraisers provide a lot of good will to the community and the donations are greatly appreciated.

“Without their support we couldn’t do what we do to help folks,” Hall said.

McBride has worked with Families in Crisis since 2008 and organized several fundraisers, including a Christmas toy run that collected dozens of toys for children in the shelter.
