The Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation, with a little help from the Cove Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Something Different Companies Jan. 27 at the EDC’s Entrepreneur Center, 207 S. Third St.
Something Different Companies, a customer-relations management company owned by J.R. Atkins, will provide Web-based assistance, social media assistance and marketing consultation to small- and medium-size businesses.
“It’s an economically feasible place for someone to come in and have an office and be a part of,” said Polo Enriquez, EDC executive director, of the Entrepreneur Center. “We hope in time to offer a membership so there is some kind of connection for someone who is coming here and may not have an office, but they are a part of the community.”
Enriquez had always planned to open an entrepreneur center in the community, he said.
It can accommodate offices for four businesses and has a conference room that can also be rented.
“This building fell into our lap. The city’s agreement to lease it and having to move (the EDC) to larger quarters gave us the opportunity to capture this building,” he said. “It’s a beautiful building and it’s ready to accommodate additional folks. The intent of these centers is to grow a business, to get larger and go into the marketplace themselves and lease or buy space in which they can grow further.”
Atkins, who has worked in sales and marketing consulting for 25 years, is eager to get his business growing in Cove and helping other businesses grow their online presence.
“My practice began in social media. I could see how important it was going to be for communication” Atkins said. “From there I began to add the things important to small businesses.”
