COPPERAS COVE — Traffic at the Five Hills shopping center is expected to continue growing as AT&T hosts its grand opening today and several other businesses etch out sites.
According to Endeavor Real Estate’s website, Five Hills is adding a USAA office, a Wingstop restaurant, an urgent care facility and possibly a Mattress Firm.
A gold and silver buyer also is listed on a site map for the shopping center, but Daniel Campbell, a spokesman for Endeavor Real Estate, said the business will not fill that space.
Five Hills has been well-received by the community and businesses, Campbell said. “Within four months after developing, the project is mostly leased.”
About 10,500 square feet of the preconstructed building shells are open, stated the developer’s website. Another 2,750 square feet of possible pad site space is available if Mattress Firm commits to Five Hills.
With AT&T hosting its grand opening from noon to 1 p.m. today, it will mark the first store to open in the development’s strip buildings next to H-E-B.
The grand opening will feature a ribbon-cutting with city officials and the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce and Visitors’ Bureau, according to AT&T. Other attractions will be available, such as a simulator that shows the dangers of texting and driving.
AT&T’s opening is the first of many, Campbell said.
“Our first tenants have opened, and we will have people starting to open from now until the fall, and hopefully all before Thanksgiving,” Campbell said.
The businesses in the pad sites, such as USAA and Chick-fil-A, may take longer to open, Campbell said.
With space leasing quickly, Campbell said it was a good sign more portions of the Five Hills shopping center will be developed sooner rather than later.
“Obviously, once we are out of space and assuming the market wants us to continue to develop, we will be ready to do that,” Campbell said. “The market will drive that, though.”
Once completed, Five Hills should be about 127 acres of shopping center, of which about 14 acres was rezoned to accommodate a 240-unit apartment complex.
