Jacqueline Smith, manager of Sport Clips in Copperas Cove, cleans up a work station Sunday morning at the new location in the Five Hills shopping center.

Business is booming for many shops opening their doors in Copperas Cove. For Sport Clips, located in the Five Hills Shopping Center, the customer feedback is overwhelmingly positive.

Jacqueline Smith, manager of Sport Clips, has been doing hair since she was 18 years old.

“I started off not really wanting to do hair and it’s was just something for fun,” she said. “Then, when I actually started, then that’s when the passion came.”

The Ellison High School graduate loves everything about hair and led the grand opening festivities for the new Cove location on July 23.

“The first day was fun and a little nerve-wrecking just waiting for the customers to come in,” she said. “All the (stylists) were pepped and ready.”

She said about 43 customers came for haircuts the first day, and business was steady throughout the week.

“When (customers) come in the door, they are automatically greeted with smiling faces,” Smith said. “Our motto is, ‘You’ve been here before, haven’t you?’ We want to assume everybody has been to Sport Clips.”

AJ Ortega of Fort Hood typically gets his hair cut at other barbershops where the wait time and process are much longer. Last weekend, he tried Sport Clips.

“The service was good,” said. “It was really comfortable and laid back, and the environment is professional.”
