Approximately 500 family and friends watched 14 teams of junior athletes ages 5-18 perform cheer, hip-hop and other routines at the ninth annual GymKix Talent Extravaganza on April 19 at the Copperas Cove High School gym.

This year, some GymKix athletes displayed their talents in major cities such as Dallas, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Houston and took home national titles. The Texas Extreme senior blue team also went undefeated.

The extravaganza show April 19 gave teams an opportunity to perform locally for family and friends.

“Extravaganza is a nice end-of-the-year event and the drive is not far away,” said Dennis Ayres, grandparent of a cheerleader. “Extravaganza allows other family members, who can’t normally attend, an opportunity to see their child or grandchild cheer or dance.”

The event also was open to other teams from the area, including Sparklette’s Dance, Dazzlin’ Diva Youth Teams and Charles Patterson Middle School from Killeen.

GymKix Executive Director Stephanie Beveridge would like to see even more teams get involved. Changing the event date might be a solution, she said.

“We are looking at having extravaganza in December rather than April,” Beveridge said. “By April, most cheer teams are done for the season.”

parent team

This year the extravaganza audience enjoyed a special treat when a team of parents, who call themselves the GymKix Parent Team, performed.

“Parents wishing to participate signed up and practiced about five or six times,” said Beveridge, giving accolades to mothers and fathers. “We have amazing parents and get amazing support.”

The extravaganza is GymKix’s last cheer event for the year. Not only did the teams win national titles, but they learned discipline, teamwork, the ability to commit, and how to be humble losers and graceful winners, Beveridge said.

“All the teams have grown immensely.”

Cheerleading team applications will be taken at GymKix until May 17. Call Beveridge at 254-542-2600 or go to
